Sorrow’s America: Girlhaus

This is where I lived for a time in Providence, Rhode Island. We called hooking up “honking the horns” and if all 4 girl roommates got their horns honked, it was considered a “traffic jam.”
There were 4 bedrooms, and each one had something uniquely horrible about it. Jess’ was brutally cold, Katie’s was brutally sunny, and in Liz’s, if you had your head down to sleep, you could hear the Tejano music coming up from the neighbors downstairs real real loud but if you picked your head up it would disappear like you had been imagining it. Repeat every time you try to go back to sleep. For me, it was the “angry dobermans” depicted at bottom. One of them was named Lola, and I’d wake up every morning to “LOLA! SHUT UP! (bark bark) LOLA! SHUT UP!!!!!”
